The purpose of the HFTP Membership Concierge Advisory Council (formerly Membership Mentors Advisory Council) is to educate new and potential HFTP members about HFTP and the opportunities that are available to better enhance their career in the hospitality industry.

James H. Schiff, CHAE, CPA
Council Chair

HFTP Global Experience: James has been a member of HFTP since 1985. He has previously served as president of three local HFTP chapters: San Diego, Vail Valley/The Summit and New Mexico. James helped charter the Vail Valley and New Mexico HFTP Chapters.  While being a member of HFTP, he has been an active member of the chapters he is affiliated with to include the News Orleans and Los Angeles chapter.

James has participated as a speaker for the HFTP several chapter regionals and participated in the certified CHAE/CHTP Train the Trainer.  James obtained the CHAE designation in 1991.  He has also served on several HFTP committees/councils.

Professional Experience: James is a Hospitality Finance Professional with operational and controller experience in varied industry locations including: club, airports, golf courses, ski resorts, luxury hotels and convention centers.

Steven F. Argo, CHAE*, CHTP*
Council Member

HFTP Global Experience: Steve has been a HFTP member since 2003. He served his local chapter as President or Immediate Past President since 2004, and served as treasurer first year as a member. Steve has also served various committees/councils, such as: the Leadership Summit Advisory Council, NCA & HFTP Club Technology Task Force, Chapter of the Year Task Force, Education Advisory Council, Prolinks Advisory Council, Nominating Committee and was a member of the HFTP Global Board of Directors from 2007-2010.

Professional Experience: Steve has had a long and varied career but retired from the Charlotte Country Club in February of 2011 after 8 plus years as CFO/IT Manager.

Kris S. Shoemaker, CMA, CGFO, CHAE, CHTP, CPFIM
Council Member

HFTP Global Experience: Kris been a member of HFTP since 1999. He has served on various HFTP committees/councils. Kris was a previous HFTP Global board member, and serves as the faculty advisor for the HFTP University of Central Florida Student chapter. He has helped with many initiatives to help HFTP expand.  He also is an active member in the Mid-Florida chapter and speaks at HFTP Global Events. Currently she is serving HFTP by participating on the Membership Concierge Advisory Council (formally Membership Mentors Advisory Council) and the Certification Task Force.  Kris has also earned both the CHAE and CHTP certifications and sponsored over 250 students members.

Professional Experience: Kris is 35 + year veteran of the hospitality industry. He is has been with the Orange County Convention Center for 28+ years and his previous employment was with Days Inn of America for 7 years. Kris has worked in all areas of operation including, front/back house. He has writing several audit manuals and created standardized daily reporting forms which were used company wide. Currently he oversees a $65 million operating budget and a $400 million non-operating budget. Since 2001, Kris teaches accounting and finance at UCF Rosen College of Hospitality Management.

Thomas G. Smith, CHAE
Vice Chair

HFTP Global  Experience: Tom is a former president of Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP ) 2010-2011 and an active member of the Wisconsin Badger Chapter of Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) and HFTP Chapters. Tom has served as editor of “Uniform System of Financial Reporting for Clubs” and chaired the Golf 20x committee, which studies technology for future golf courses and has served  on over 15+ committees, task force and councils.

Professional Experience:Tom knows the private club business from bottom to top. Over the past 24 years, his responsibilities have ranged from banquet management to CFO of three private clubs.Tom spent 16 years in numerous roles at Oconomowoc Lake Club before spending 8 years as CFO at Ozaukee Country Club and three years as CEO at Westmoor Country Club.

Mick Nissen, CHAE, CHTP
Council Member

HFTP Global Experience:  Mick has been a member of HFTP since 2005.  He helped establish and served as the first President of the Bay Area Club Chapter in 2006.  Mick has served as a member of the Global Board of Directors from 2011 to 2014 and on a number of Global Councils and Committees including the Education Advisory Council and Certification Advisory Council.  Mick has also been a speaker at HFTP and Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) educational conferences and regularly attends HFTP’s Annual Convention and Trade Show.

Professional Experience:  Mick has worked in the private club business for over 15 years serving as the Controller at 3 different clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Clare Vazquez-Peace
Council Member

HFTP Global Experience: Clare Vazqez-Peace is active in a number of professional organizations including the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and Human Resource Association of Palm Beach County (HRPBC).  Her community involvement includes President with the Florida Gold Coast Chapter Hospitality Financial Technology Professionals (HFTP) and Board of Director with the Hispanic Human Resources Council, Inc. (HHRC) and; past Board of Director with Workforce Alliance of Palm Beach County chartered by the State of Florida.  Clare continues to share her wealth of HR knowledge as a frequent speaker at professional human resource organizations and round tables.

Professional Experience: Clare diverse HR background has enabled her to bring an innovative, practical and fresh perspective to HR issues in the Hospitality Industry.  She is a creative out-of-the-box thinker who has consulted with many Golf & Country Clubs, including Fortune 500 companies across a wide variety of industries.  Clare serves as a consultant to management on human resources-related issues. Clare has a Master's Degree in Labor/ Employment Law from New York Institute of Technology and a Bachelor's Degree in Management of Human Resources from Palm Beach Atlantic University.   Clare is Six Sigma Green-Belt Certified.
