With its warm Southern hospitality, vibrant cultural scene and endless array of attractions, Charlotte, North Carolina invites you to experience the best of the South with a modern twist. Despite its name, the Uptown district is home to the city’s entire downtown business district, including the Charlotte Convention Center where HITEC North America 2024 will be holding court June 24-27. Check out some of the best that the Queen City has to offer within a 15-minute walk from HITEC below.

Whether you live life on the half-shell or like to kick back with some comfort food, you’re a short walk away from delicious destinations like Caroline’s Oyster Bar, complete with an outdoor patio and High Tide Happy Hour on weekday afternoons, The Bella Ciao, offering an upscale environment for scratch-made Italian classics and Tupelo Honey, whose focus on local providers and sustainable sourcing have been showcasing Carolinian cuisine for over 20 years.

If getting cultured is more your speed off the show floor, you’re in luck—Charlotte is home to North Carolina’s first art museum, the Mint Museum. While the namesake location (a former U.S. Mint building) is a short drive away in Charlotte’s historic Eastover neighborhood, Uptown’s Mint Museum at Levine Center for the Arts is also home to permanent art collections and rotating exhibitions throughout the year. Bonus: the Mint offers free admission from 5-9 p.m. on Wednesdays!

After a long day of exploring groundbreaking tech, there’s nothing like reconnecting with nature. Luckily, Uptown has multiple greenspaces near the convention center—including The Green right across the street! Themed to celebrate world literature, the 1.5-acre “pocket park” often plays host to public screenings and performances alongside multiple fountains and art installations that make The Green the perfect post-show escape.
