Volunteering on many of the amazing councils and committees that help HFTP achieve its vision helped our latest Member Spotlight subject rise to the challenge and lead our association during a very extraordinary period. Meet 2020-22 HFTP Global President Mark Pate, CHAE, CHTP, MBA of Gulf Breeze, Florida, who has been a member since 1994.
I have been the Assistant Controller, IT Director and Benefits Administrator at Highpointe Hotel Corporation for 34 years.
I have had the privilege to serve on both the CHAE (Certified Hospitality Accountant Executive) and CHTP (Certified Hospitality Technology Professional) Advisory Councils, the Young Professionals Council, the HITEC Advisory Council, the HFTP Annual Convention Education Advisory Council, the Education Advisory Council and the Editorial Review Council that have been formed over the years. By serving on these councils, I was introduced to the association's inner workings and challenges that come with moving a one-of-a-kind association like HFTP forward.
I also had the rare opportunity to serve as HFTP Global President for two consecutive years during the COVID-19 pandemic. The many hours participating as an organizational leader, the guidance of my predecessors and the perspectives of this leadership group were key to my capability to lead our association during a very extraordinary period. There are so many adjectives to describe this unique epoch within HFTP's 71-year history — challenging, tumultuous, surprising, impressive, inspiring — and I am quite proud to have been a part of it.
I've always found the education and networking opportunities at HFTP events to be top-notch and so valuable in my job. It has been such a privilege to be a very small part of the greatest hospitality association in the world!
