HFTP Member Spotlight

Getting involved with a professional association on the ground floor of your career can take you to new heights you'd never dreamed of—just ask this week's Member Spotlight honoree, Andrew Buwalda, CHAE of Huntsville, Ontario, who has been a member of HFTP since 2013.

How long have you worked in the hospitality industry?

I have been in the hospitality finance industry for my entire career. I began in operations and quickly moved into finance roles after finding my home with HFTP. I have since held various Controller/Director of Finance and Regional Director of Finance roles.

What are some of the highlights of your time with HFTP?

I have been involved with HFTP for my entire career. I was first introduced to HFTP as a student and quickly saw the value in maintaining my membership. Since then, I have obtained my CHAE certification and spent time volunteering on various advisory councils including Young Professionals and HITEC. I was involved in local chapter leadership before applying for a seat on the Global Board of Directors and am thrilled to be joining the Executive Committee in the fall to work with the talented HFTP team for the betterment of the association and the industry.

What do you find most valuable about your HFTP membership?

The people and the connections. HFTP is a group of passionate industry professionals who are so eager to connect and help one another succeed. The opportunities for continuing education and both personal and professional enhancement are excellent. Also, HFTP's in-person events provide a platform for education and interpersonal connection.
