I am truly grateful for the knowledge and expertise that I have gained through the CHTP certification, and I cannot thank HFTP enough for providing such a valuable resource to hospitality professionals like myself. This certification has not only equipped me with the methodologies and best practices in the industry but also helped me become a better employee for my company.
Barry Thomas, CHTP
Vice President, Accor Tech, Raffles and Orient Express — Accor
It is the best certification I hold... Before, I was an IT guy working in a hotel; the CHTP helped me become a hotel guy working in IT.
The Certification Advisory Program is a program designed to assist CHAE and CHTP certification applicants in achieving their HFTP certification designation.
HFTP is currently looking for experienced HFTP designee advisors to join the program, who will help and support candidates in one-to-one interactions, as a supplemental review option for the certification exams.
A CHAE / CHTP designee with at least seven (7) consecutive years of active designation, and who meets the requirements of “Retired Status”, per Section 11: Retired Members as stated in the HFTP By-laws may transfer to retired status. In a retired status a designee may not solicit or perform any paid employment or consulting services related to the CHAE / CHTP and shall use the designation, CHAE / CHTP-Retired. A designee will retain full membership benefits including publications and discounts on HFTP products and training events; however a designee is not required to maintain the CPE requirements. HFTP will remove the work contact information from the membership database; all correspondence will be sent to designees’ home address
A CHAE / CHTP designee with twenty (20) or more years of active certification status is eligible for the Emeritus status effective January 1, 2016. This status will not require those who are eligible to report the educational maintenance requirement; however, they would still be responsible to pay the maintenance renewal fees.
You must pass the CHTP Exam to earn the designation. You must complete the application process and include all required materials in order to take the exam.
The CHTP application is available for download. Please review the policies and procedures to learn more detailed information on the application process and the requirements necessary to sit for the exam.
The CHTP exams are available at all HFTP conferences and events. In addition, exams can be taken online privately under the supervision of a proctor.
The exam covers three sections and each section covers certain competencies. See the Exam Preparation resource for each exam sections and areas of competency.
HFTP supports applicants in their journey with online learning tools and resources in the HFTP Certification online platform, powered by Ascend to help pass the exam and earn the CHTP designation. See the Exam Preparation resource to learn more.
Pricing is based on HFTP membership. HFTP members receive a discounted exam rate via the application process. Please see the pricing section of the website for current exam rates. In the event you need to retake the exam(s), the retake fees are listed in the policies and procedures.
You must maintain 60 continuing education points (CPEs) over the course of two years. HFTP offers continuing education at all its conferences and events, as well as at HFTP chapter events and HFTP online education. Visit the policies and procedures for more information on maintenance requirements. See the "Maintenance Resources" section of the CHTP webpage for more information.
